Anna Sugi, Today’s Woman Foundation Founder and Inspiring Woman dies
As most people know, Anna Sugi’s mission was to save lives. Unfortunately, Anna Sugi lost her life to breast cancer early today. A community leader and women’s health advocate, Anna Sugi peacefully passed away Thursday morning following her quiet battle with breast cancer. She was 50 years old. The ironic part of this is that Anna lived her life to save other lives.
As administrator and CEO for Choice Medical Group, ten years ago, Anna had a vision to provide women in our own community with valuable information and offer appropriate tools to help enhance their physical, emotional and spiritual health, at that time the Today’s Woman Foundation was created. The Today’s Woman Foundation, growing to a non-profit, offered screenings throughout the year and raised money for grants giving to local women in need. Her inspiration to others was remarkable. One of the purposes of the Today’s Woman Foundation was to raise funds to help women battling cancer, enabling them to receive the appropriate care to conquer this illness. Little did we know at that time, Anna Sugi, would succumb to this dreadful disease herself.
Anna Sugi and had been with Choice Medical Group since its inception in 1990. Her long time colleague and friend, Dr. Nayyar, President of Choice Medical Group expressed that we have truly lost one of our best. He expressed, “here was a woman of dignity going through one of her biggest challenges in life, but still putting others first”. “She will be missed”
Born in Brindisi, Italy, where she also majored in accounting and went to law school, Anna Sugi came to the Victor Valley in 1982 with her husband Ron so he could pursue and finish his career in the United States Air Force.
Although she was fully dedicated to her mission at Choice Medical Group and the Today’s Woman Foundation, she was fully focused on her children as well. Both her son, Mark, and daughter, Michelle, will graduate from UCLA Medical School in June.
A group of local physicians gathered Wednesday evening and raised more than $35,000 for the Anna Sugi Endowment Fund, a part of the Today’s Woman Foundation.
The Purpose of the Today’s Woman Foundation is to provide empowerment and financial support that allows the recipient to meet her medical-health challenge with courage, dignity, hope and faith.
“Anna’s legacy will live on”, expressed Dr. Nayyar.
In lieu of flowers, the Sugi family has requested that donations can be made to the The Today’s Woman Foundation c/o Anna Sugi Endowment Fund, c/o, 18564 Highway 18, Suite 105, Apple Valley, CA 92307.
